Super Pratone for Gufram

Making design great again

For the first 50 years of its Pratone, Gufram chose to celebrate this icon of design in great style, through a reinterpretation of the most famous unconventional chaise longue in the world by means of a unique element: air.

The work, conceived in 1971 to subvert the ‘bourgeois’ idea of the lounge armchair, was transformed this time into a surprising artistic installation, in which you could get lost, just like inside an unexpected maze, involving art, ingenuity and design.

34 stems, a base measuring 8 meters for over 5 meters in height: these are the figures of the inflatable SUPER PRATONE in its LABYRINTH version, which embellished the Mannerist architecture of Piazza San Fedele, one of the most charming ‘lounges’ in Milan, on the occasion of the 2021 MILAN DESIGN WEEK, and set up afterwards in some of the most famous squares across Italy.

The removable stems – features as unprecedented as exquisite – create an experience which is always new and surprising for the public.

The biggest challenge was to reproduce the ‘surreal softness’ of this furnishing, unique in the world. The challenge was met thanks to the incredible properties of air, a double-walled system.
