Planet Gufram

Technique, innovation, and tailoring skills: inflatables as an art form at the service of concept design

Created for the well-known company @gufram, the “Planet Gufram” project is a perfect example of how inflatable technology can become an expressive language and a tool for experiential design.

Designed as a large protective biosphere, the structure housed cacti and giant Bloom flowers by Marcel Wanders. The soft, lightweight inflatable shell enveloped this microcosm like a translucent shell, a subtle boundary between reality and imagination.

When new forms of life arrive on Earth, they must be protected. A cocoon must be created, a biosphere, a suspended place where ideas, forms, and visions can be preserved like precious objects.

It is precisely this vision that inspired the work of FLY IN, which oversaw the design and construction of the inflatable shell with the technical precision and sartorial mastery that have always distinguished the company. Every curve of the fabric has been designed to combine functionality, aesthetics, and safety, transforming a simple container into an immersive and sensory experience.

Installed in the courtyard of the Mediateca Santa Teresa during the 2017 Milan Furniture Fair, Planet Gufram's biosphere attracted the attention of an international audience, demonstrating how inflatables can become a real storytelling tool, capable of exciting and giving shape to the most visionary ideas.
