Giga Tropeana - Inflatable Opera

Inflatable Installation for Materia Design Festival – Tropea

For the Materia Design Festival in Tropea, we collaborated with designer Antonio Aricó to create a monumental inflatable sculpture inspired by the Calabresella, reinterpreted with the iconic Tropea red onion as its defining feature.

Standing 6 metres tall, the installation transforms the inflatable into a contemporary work of art, combining monumentality, lightness, and a striking visual presence. Its soft forms and essential volumes give the sculpture a powerful iconic identity, creating a dialogue between local tradition, cultural heritage, and contemporary design.

Designed to be experienced from every perspective within the exhibition space, the installation redefines the concept of temporary sculpture through inflatable technology. The inflatable becomes an expressive medium that amplifies the creative vision, transforming a symbol of Calabrian culture into a large-scale architectural landmark.

This project represents the meeting point between artistic research and technical expertise, demonstrating how inflatable structures can go beyond their traditional function to become a genuine form of artistic expression—engaging audiences while enhancing and activating public space.
