The Biggest Bows

Artistic inflatable installation for the holidays

The Biggest Bows, is an artistic installation,  a project commissioned by Valle Giulia Real Estate (owner of the buildings) was conceived by Thirtyone Design, founded by Claudia Campone and realized by FLY IN ( leading Italian company in the inflatable sector) with the project management of the Swedish designer Magnus Gustafsson.

A large red bow enveloped Lafuente Towers (aka Palazzo Esso), a work of historical and architectural interest that has been part of the skyline of the Magliana area since the late 70s.  The Lafuente Towers building was the work of the Spanish architect Julio Lafuente and was restored in 2009. Another one wrapped Palazzo Argonauta (via Ostiense).
Designed and built as a Christmas installation, it wanted to convey the idea that all the buildings were decorated like giant gift packages.

The large bow, illuminated internally, was mounted to the building without any anchors so as to protect the building itself. This made it necessary for the experts to work at a high altitude during the assembly phase of 4 suspended fitters (technically known as “riggers”).

This FLY IN installation was made possible by using woven wire mesh made of DYNEEMA, a nautical fabric widely used in the field of high quality sail boats. It is eight times lighter than steel and almost 15 times stronger.
The bow has a wind resistance of 100 km / h.
